Abstract Photo Art

Photo Art Created After Image Capture

What is abstract photography

Abstract photos or abstraction in photography, is a means of depicting a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world, and has been created through the use of photographic equipment, processes or materials.

The image may be produced using traditional photographic equipment like a camera, darkroom or computer, or it may be created without using a camera by directly manipulating film, paper or other photographic media, including digital presentations.

The photos on this page were captured on a digital camera, processed as per usual for a normal image. Then reprocessed in Photoshop using masks, filters and blending modes.

How I edit an abstract photo

The short video here shows the results after each of the various photoshop filters and blend modes have been applied in photoshop (CS5).

Simplified steps of the action that I use are listed here:-

1) Mezzotint - medium lines
2) Radial Blur - 100 & Zoom
3) Repeat Radial Blur
4) Duplicate Layer
5) Twirl - Angle +75
6) Select other layer
7) Twirl - Angle -75
8) Blend current Layer - Lighten
9) Merge
10) Save
